In its beginnings in Argentina, the company developed products for the incipient leather industry, working with tanning agents and castor oils.

Later, it became the first producer of Aluminum Sulfate in the country, replacing the imports that were made from it, with the firm objective of providing Argentina with national product but complementing its service to the market with a palette of imported products that were not manufactured. in the country from large companies that entrusted their distribution to us.

To accompany the company’s sustained growth, production diversification began in the 1990s based on a vertically integrated strategy on Sulfur chemistry, from the purchase of the Atanor Sulfuric Acid Factory located in Dock Sud. Thanks to this, it ventured into markets such as paper mills, water treatment, electricity production, painting and ceramics industry.

With this strategic base, exponential growth was achieved by entering new markets as a strategic partner of producers of supplies for the home and personal care, as well as surfactants and additives for oil exploitation, where the company is today the only one prepared to the development of these products, thanks to the investments made between 2016 and 2021 that exceed US$50 million.

MERANOL CHEMICAL TRADITION SINCE 1888

Based in the Argentine Republic since 1942, the MERANOL Company is the direct successor of CHEMISCHE FABRIK MEERANE GmbH, a German chemical company founded by Josef Wertheim, which since 1888 operated in the cities of Meerane and Lugau (Saxony, Germany) .

Since its formation, its founder has clearly defined its business strategy on two fundamental bases:

The industrial spirit of the family made it develop in the production of critical inputs for the industry, beginning with the production of Aluminum Sulfate based on Aluminum hydroxide, later diversifying said production with Bauxite.

In 1994, the Atanor Sulfuric Acid factory was acquired, with which production was vertically integrated and Meranol’s business strategy began to develop based on an integrated production diversification within Sulfur chemistry. Iron oxide is incorporated in its different colors, then H-LAS, S-LES and with the installation of multipurpose reactors (MPR), it complements a diversified offer, strengthening the presence in the personal care and cleaning business.

Of special importance is the fact that the new surfactant plant applied to the oil industry is in the process of being assembled, where the needs of these products applied to shale gas and shaleoil will be transcendent for national energy development.

Meranol is a chemical company dedicated to the production and marketing of basic inorganic chemical products and intermediate organic chemicals for industry, organized on the basis of sulfur chemistry, with vertically integrated processes and diversified production.

Meranol markets solid sulfur while industrializing it to produce intermediate states (molten and filtered sulfur) which it offers to the market and in turn uses as raw material to produce sulfuric acid. This production plant is one of the main nodes of the integrated production chain, which is demanded by most of the country’s industrial network and, in turn, uses it as an intermediate product in the integrated production matrix for the production of solid aluminum sulfate. and liquid with other raw materials (aluminum hydroxide and bauxite) and also to produce iron oxides (pigments).

In the integration of sulfur chemistry, the company manufactures different types of sulfonic acid (detergent base) and sodium lauryl ether sulfate through the sulfation of ethoxylated fatty alcohols, mainly intended for the hygiene and personal care industry, and for agribusiness.

Aimed at increasing the industrial supply of locally manufactured chemical products, the company has set up a multipurpose reactor plant with state-of-the-art technology, to expand the palette of complementary products for sodium lauryl ether sulfate, and a new plant for surfactants to sulfate alcohols. of high mole intended for the oil and gas industry.

In addition, Meranol distributes other industrial chemicals from companies around the world, of which it is the commercial representative in Argentina.

BARRANQUERAS COMPLEX

Meranol has a liquid sulfate plant in the town of Barranqueras in the Province of Chaco, on a property bordering SAMEEP, a provincial company dedicated to the purification of water for human consumption.

Meranol markets and supplies aluminum sulfate to customers in the north of the country from this site since December 2017.

In this plant, Meranol aims to supply a market with high demand in full expansion. The products will be marketed at the national level (SAMEEP, NOA, NEA and the center of the country) and since distances are a determining factor, the external market will be limited to bordering countries: in places near the border with Bolivia, Paraguay and Brazil.
